In order to become an approved SWEEP Collector an organization must meet SWEEP's collection and accessibility standard, accept and package all obligated products according to SWEEP Standards. The Collector is paid the incentive on quantity of obligated products sent into the SWEEP program, and products are picked up and recycled at no charge. May apply to retailers or other existing businesses, as well as any municipalities that are able to meet the accessibility and collection standards.

In order to ensure the health and safety of those handling EOLE, SWEEP requires that all businesses or organizations taking part in any of the above collection methods (excluding dropping off at a SARCAN depot) adhere to the following Packing and Transportation Standards:

Protection of Private and Personal Information

Although SWEEP recommends that all personal information be wiped from electronics by the owner of the waste electronics, it is important to ensure that personal data and information contained on obsolete electronic equipment destined for recycling through SWEEP is protected. ·All methods of collection, as well as all entities collecting ewaste on behalf of SWEEP, are subject to SWEEP's Protection of Private and Personal Information standards.
